Brain Heart Infusion Broth, BHI B

Used for the cultivation of fastidious organisms.

Catalog Number: AS-1149

In microbiology, Brain Heart Infusion (BHI) Broth is a crucial liquid culture media. This nutrient-rich broth promotes the growth of a wide variety of microorganisms, including fungi, yeasts, and fastidious (Streptococci, Meningococci) as well as non-fastidious bacteria. Essential building blocks and growth factors can be obtained through infusions of animal heart and brain tissue, while peptones provide extra nitrogen and amino acids. Microbial growth is supported by dextrose, and osmotic equilibrium is preserved by sodium chloride. BHI Broth utilizes in standard operating procedures for water testing and for growing fastidious organisms. Its potent nutritional profile also renders it ideal for determining sensitivity to antibiotics.
